// On a mission to create the most innovative poetry festival in Africa //
Bloemfontein, South Africa - The RadioActive Poetry Cafe (RPC) announces its milestone 5th-anniversary celebration with an innovative poetry festival that breaks new ground in accessibility and technological integration. The festival, supported by the National Arts Council of South Africa (PESP5) and the Department of Sports, Arts and Culture, will take place at the Bloemfontein Civic Theatre on the 8th of November, 2024, from 4 PM to 8 PM.
In a first for the festival, the program will feature deaf poets and full sign language interpretation, making poetry accessible to the deaf community. "This inclusive approach reflects our commitment to connecting communities through poetry," says Thuthukani Ndlovu, Festival Director
The event highlights include:
Mini Literature Market and Virtual Gallery Launch (4:00 - 5:30 PM)
Poetry and Music Show featuring 13 distinguished performers (5:45 - 8:00 PM)
"Basotho200 - Augmented Reflections" AR and Virtual Gallery Experience (There will be VR headsets available for the audience to use in order to immerse themselves in the gallery)
AR artworks Artworks embedded with poetry
The festival coincides with the Basotho nation's bicentennial celebration, featuring special AR artworks that honor this historic milestone. International artist Thabo Marebole (Mora-Mobu) from Lesotho will showcase work in both the virtual gallery and live performance. The Virtual Gallery will also feature poetry by Thato "Atandwa Naleli " Rannana, and artworks by the festival director who collaborated with both poets on this project. In this virtual gallery, visitors can also find out a bit more about the different stakeholders involved in the festival such as the organizing team, the artists and the exhibitors. Some of the exhibitors at the festival will include Trendy VR World, 56 Tambo, Cineba!, Sun Peo Publishers and Charmza Literary Club, enhancing the festival's commitment to blending traditional poetry with cutting-edge technology. There will also be vendors selling a variety of drinks. We encourage you to arrive early so you get to experience a bit of the literature market, XR before the event begins.
