"What was important for us in #WEAREDYINGHERE is not to make a spectacle of our pain and trauma. When we were exposed, we covered each other, either through touch, or sound, or action. This work is about bearing witness and how #WEWANTOTLIVE"

(Siphokazi Jonas)

Wassup wassup fam. I hope that you are all good. On the 25th of Feb I published an article about this poetry and music production which you can read here. This production is basically three women’s responses to the prevalence of the violent culture of harassment, abuse, rape and femicide in South Africa. All three-cast members co-wrote the work; Siphokazi Jonas, along with Venda-born storyteller Hope Netshivhambe and vocalist Babalwa Makwetu. Following two successful performances in Cape Town and Johannesburg in 2019 and February 2020, the global audience is finally able to experience this powerful stage production online.

I was really frustrated at the fact that I was not able to travel to Joburg to watch it, but now that it's available for streaming online, I definitely had to buy myself a ticket. I even decided to get 3 extra tickets to give 3 brothers of mine because this production is a must watch, especially for men. I aint gonna say much, because I would rather give my detailed feedback on it after watching it, so for now I'd just like to encourage you to BUY YOUR TICKET (here). Tickets are going for only R50 fam, so do justice by buying a ticket for friend as well. In fact, I would like to challenge everyone who reads this article to buy a ticket and share their feedback online using the hashtag #WeAreDyingHere . Even if you have already watched it, nothing should stop you from giving someone else the same opportunity. You can also make donations for their #BlaketDrive2020 and R200 KMA Donation while buying your ticket.

We'll end this article with a few words from the producer and director "Siphokazi Jonas" on why you should watch this production. Let's spread the word, & don't forget to use the hashtag #WeAreDyingHere to give your feedback.

"#WeAreDyingHere is an important work in speaking back, challenging actions, and leading conversations, which need to be had within our communities. It is especially timely during the lock-down period when so many are vulnerable and under difficult circumstances." This is one of the many reasons why we decided to also share the above poster, and we hope that you will share it too. Feel free to give feedback on the show in the comment section of this article and let's connect online @2tukani on Twitter and Instagram. I really can't wait to hear your thoughts on the show. Peace out, and stay safe fam.
